Everything Should be Purple

This past weekend I was sorting through my t-shirts and found two white shirts that had stains. I really like the shirts and was about to throw them out when I remember I had a package of Purple Rite dye. So I decided to try and hide the stains. One shirt was stained with tea I had spilled and the other was splatters of cooking oil.
I got out my big canning pot and dyed the t-shirts.
The Miami one had the tea stains and it came out fine. The other one with the oil stains didn't do anything but make the stains a different color. I rather expected that. But instead of tossing 2 shirts I will only toss one.
(These shirts actually came out the same color.)

I still had a BIG pot of dye. Hmmmm..... what could I dye next. I have several cute canvas knitting bags and of course I would perfer them to be purple, so I dyed one of those. This was interesting because the bag was treated with something that made it resistant to absorbing water. I had to soak it in the water bath for a bit before I put it in the pot. Because I was busy doing other things and the bag was stiff and hard to move in the pot, I didn't stir the bag much which is why it didn't dye evenly. But I rather like it.

While the bag was dyeing I remembered that several years ago at Stitches, I bought some natural cotton yarn that was made for Koolaid dyeing. Perfect!!!!

I used my swift to skein the balls. Soaked the yarn. (The water ended up this odd yellow color. I have no idea what was in the yarn.) I didn't want a solid color so for each skein I tied a tight knot in the center and then tied the ends in a knot. Tossed them into the pot for about 10 minutes. Then I slow untied the knots. This is the result. I love it! See the nice varigation.
