The store that surprised me the most was Continental Stitch. The last time I was in that shop was 4 years ago. Since then they have expanded and carry a lot more yarn. Lovely yarn and wonderful samples.
If you haven't been to Yarn Paper Scissors, you MUST go. The shop is beautiful. Be sure to check out their classrooms. Makes you want to take a class just to sit in those chairs.
I've only been to Nine Rubies one other time. But I love this shop. I bought their one skein project (a beaded bag) and several skeins of Baywood yarn. Baywood is from a local dyer and you can only get it at Nine Rubies.
My favorite purchase was the Colinette Jitterbug from The Swift Stitch. I FELL in love with the color and bought 2 skeins. Ya ya I know it's sock yarn. I don't know what I'll make, but for sure it will not be socks! LOL
I bought the one skein crocheted project from Green Planet Yarns (one of my favorite stores) and finished it last night. Woo Hoo. It was fun and quick. I'm going to make more of these hats.

I got the one skein project at Purlescence, which is a cute hand warmer made with Dream in Colors yarn. That is such wonderful yarn. I also bought some Mountain Colors Mountain Lace.
Full Thread Ahead also carries a yarn by a local dyer that is only available on etsy.com or their store. It was beautiful colors but I resisted. I did buy the one skein crocheted market bag AND enough of Full Thread Ahead's Jewels yarn to make this sweater by Debbie Bliss.

If you are looking for knitting books, especially Rowan books, you must go to Uncommon Threads. I was amazed at all the books they have. They have Rowan books I didn't even know existed.

So nice to see your review! Glad to know you like the Jitterbug :-)
I love that Debbie Bliss design.
You can crochet with your sock yarn!
I love the shop hope -- if just for the excuse to visit 19 shops in 3-4 days. Y'know -- I haven't been to SF since we did that mini-SF-only shop hop a few years back...we should do that again.
