I was writing to some friends asking for movie suggestions. I told them I was out of touch with what was in the theaters now because we had a TV that gets 3 channels, which we rarely watch, and I can't find a radio news station here is Sacramento.
Dana replied "Girl! I thought you moved to Sacramento, not Siberia!"
LOL well the weather is better here but ya it is a bit like Siberia compared to the Bay Area. It is certainly a BIG change.
It's funny because CA is larger than many countries and Sacramento is the capital of the state, I expected Sac. to be a cosmopolitan city with the news being focused on what the state legislator was doing. Maybe like a much tamer version of Washington DC. But NO. It's a slow paced city. You can tell the focus here is very different from SJ. It's not focused on high tech, or government, or on much of anything as far as I can tell.
You can tell the education level average here is lower. And it is less crowded. We can actually go out to dinner on Sat. at 6p and be seated instead of having a 50 minute wait.
I've asked several people what radio station they listen to for news (I used to listen to KCBS every morning) and EACH one of them said and I quote "NEWS??? there's no news here". And it's true! Other than a FOX news station and a couple of "Talk News" (run away run away) there are no radio News stations. There is NPR, which is good but has local news and weather sporadically and not very much of that.
The day I officially moved to Sac. the big news item was that a cow at the state fair had run amuck and was shot dead. That was all they were talking about on the radio. They were all upset that the cow was killed. I'm not sure what they thought should have been done. But apparently killing a "mad" cow is just not OK. There were even businesses that had signs out about this. I kept thinking Really? That's the top news story of the day? REALLY!!! Here in the city of the state capital????
This is not a city. It is a bunch of small towns that share borders and where the major employer is the state of CA. There are high tech businesses here, but it is not development. It is mostly large testing facilities.
I do miss hearing the news about high tech, because it is exciting and it interests me but I don't miss hearing about the latest shooting in Oakland.
So as with most changes. There is good and bad. But for me the good is very very good and the bad -- well there really isn't any BAD. Just things that are different than I expected and a few things I miss, but aren't hard to give up.

Who knew Sacto was a "cow town"? Oh well, I guess the slower pace of living is nice for you, compared to here. As long as you can find good yarn shops, life is okay, right!
