The Pianos!

In the last post, I mentioned Cleo, the baby grand Steinway piano and that when the construction is finished, she will go into the living room. The other piano is a concert quality Bluthner, which will remain in the performance room.

I thought you would like see the pianos. There they are in the performance room. This picture was taken by my dear friend Paula Wolfson.

In this picture, you can see Cleo in the foreground and the Bluthner behind her. Cleo was made in 1918 and was given to David by his Aunt, Margaret Yates. In the picture Cleo looks black, but she is actually brown. A few years ago, David had all the insides redone; new strings, hammers, sound board, etc. So like many of us, her outside shows her age at bit, but inside she is young.

This is the Bluthner in the original living room. Needless to say, it took up almost the entire room. This is an amazing instrument and has to be seen to be really appreciated. It is 7'8" black and shiny. And the sound it produces is amazing.

In the picture, you can see the strings reflected in the lid. This is David's dream piano. He
had decided he'd wanted to own a Bluthner and built the performance/recording room about 4 years ago in preparation for that day. He was hoping to get a Bluthner the next 10 years and Cleo would live in the room until then. But things happened and he was able to get it much sooner than expected.

The Bluthner company has been around for a long time. They produce some of the finest pianos available today. Here are two links in case you'd like to know more:
